Departure times
Several buses run to Katwijk from Leiden Central every ten minutes. So you can board the bus directly from the train, and you'll be in Katwijk 15 minutes later. Get off at one of the boulevard stops, and you'll be on the beach a few minutes later!
Plan your journey in the 9292 app before departure, that way you'll be aware of nearby stops, delays and diversions.
Tickets
It is possible to check in with your debit card anywhere on public transport, this can be done with your physical card, but also with a debit card on your phone! You can also buy an anonymous OV-Chipkaart with/without balance to travel with, check online where to buy one. It can be used immediately after purchase.
Tickets for the train or bus can be bought online, if you use the 9292 app you can buy a ticket for your entire journey. You will also find ticket machines at every train station where you can buy physical tickets. At these ticket machines you can also top up your (anonymous) OV-Chipkaart.
Why Public Transport?
Travel relaxed and get to your destination quickly. Travel by train to Leiden Centraal and change to the bus there, and in 15 minutes you will be in Katwijk. This way you travel to the sea sustainably and quickly.
Or hire a bike, it's only 9 kilometres by bike from Leiden to Katwijk! There is a special cycling fast track, cycle on to the promenade and rest on the beach. So your day out or holiday starts right away in the fresh air!
